Life’s a Beach … Are You Ready?

by Rev. Rick Robinson

The statement “Life’s a Beach” is a phrase created to be a positive statement, thinking on sun, sand, water and people having fun. I am using the statement as a metaphor to illustrate a principle that will make life better for you. While some people may be thinking of the fun they had yesterday, others have a secret hope that yesterday will get better. You cannot live in the past with the good times, or with the bad times. Each day is made new, so are you ready for the new day? God not only wants you to be ready for it, He wants you to be happy about it.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

That word glad in the original language is samach (pronounced “saw-makh’”) which means joyful and merry. So, the statement life is a beach can be a great sentiment, but can you make each day a better day?

Maybe you are one of those people who don’t like the beach. No matter how you feel about the beach, it is a fact that every day at the beach is not tourist worthy. Storms come to the beach just like other places and sometimes they are even more severe.

In the summer of 1944 my dad went to a beach in France known as Normandy. Dad was not issued a shovel and pail, and promised a nice trip to the beaches of France. The soldiers participating in the Normandy invasion were given weapons and training, and they were told the truth about enemy soldiers who want to kill them.

In the same way, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you must not be content to go to the beach of life with a shovel and pail. God has given you weapons to fight the enemy. He has given you everything you need to live life to the full.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

God wants you to know there is an enemy who wants to kill you.

John 10:10

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

God wants you to know the way to live and He has told you the truth, because He is truth.

John 14:5-6

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Not spending time in God’s word is as foolish as it would have been to send soldiers to Normandy with a shovel and pail, and not mentioning there were German soldiers there who don’t want to play. June 6, 1944 has often been referred to as the longest day, and what a long day it must have seemed like. The beach of your life will have long days at times. You will still experience storms at your beach called life because there is an enemy who hates you.

Don’t face your long and stormy days with a shovel and pail. Dig deep into God’s word so you will be trained and equipped with the weapons to survive even the longest day at the beach.
