Life Could Be Better Without the “un”!

Life is Better Without the UN 070514by Victoria Robinson

Oh my, how two little letters can change the meaning of so many words! The prefix, “un” can modify words in a good way or, unfortunately, in a very bad way. Consider these words that had a wonderful meaning until the prefix of un was added:

 unproductive – productive

♥ ungodly – godly

 unloving – loving

unkindness – kindness

unknowledgeable  – knowledgeable

uncontrollable – controllable

 unforgiveness – forgiveness

 unhelpful – helpful

 unhappy – happy

 unfaithful – faithful

The Word of God so richly affirms to us what will keep the dreaded prefix “un” off of the word productive. In the book of Second Peter, the apostle Peter gives us great insight on how to keep from being unproductive. In the first chapter of this book he penned, he states, “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” So what are these qualities he is referring to? Peter advises us to make every effort to add to our faith …

 goodness

 knowledge

 self-control

 perseverance

 godliness

 brotherly kindness

 love

He also gives us a very precious promise when he says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

Dearest girlfriends, I pray that we would make every effort to diligently add faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love to our life so that we will escape the corruption of the world caused by our evil desires.

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. ~ 2 Peter 1:3-9 NIV
