Idolizing the One and Only
by Victoria Robinson
We have “cast images” everywhere we look. We just do not always realize what they really are because the “cast images” in our lives never have the appearance of a god. They look more like: wealth, beauty, clothes, or food. Even harmless fun activities can become idols in our life. Anything we find our comfort in other than God is an idol. Dare I say even coffee can become an idol. Yes, my friends and I have been known to worship at the “Church of Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Company”. My favorite coffee which can easily become an idol in my heart! There is nothing wrong with enjoying coffee unless it becomes a “god” to us. Do you find more comfort in your cappuccino than the One and Only true God?
We should not idolize anything or anybody except God and God alone. He is the One and Only! Dearest girlfriends, let us make a careful examination of our lives and throw away the “cast images” we have set up as idols.
Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. ~ Exodus 34:14 NIV
But as for those who long for idols, I will repay them fully for their sins, says the Sovereign Lord. ~ Ezekiel 11:21 NLT
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. ~ John 1:14 NIV
