Is Rocky Road Really Sweet?

May 28

by Victoria Robinson

Oh yummm!!!!! Sweet gooey marshmallow, decadent chocolate, and nuts all make for a delicious treat. There are so many sweet ways to enjoy Rocky Road … candy, ice cream, brownies, dessert pizza, cake … and on and on the list could go. While Rocky Road might make a sweet treat, spiritually speaking, none of us wants to walk a rocky road in life.

There is nothing sweet about choosing to walk on a rocky road in life, but there is sweetness to be found in walking on the chosen path by obeying God’s word. The psalmist said, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.” King Solomon warned us that a treacherous person walks a rocky road.

Girlfriends, do you find yourself traveling on a rocky road due to the ungodly choices you are making? If so, stop right where you are and repent and allow your heavenly Father to place  you on a smooth road.

Dearest girlfriends, let us choose to walk in God’s sweet ways instead of on a bitter rocky road.

A person with good sense is respected; a treacherous person walks a rocky road. ~ Proverbs 13:15 NLT

I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. ~ Psalm 119:101-104 NIV

… everyone who does right walks on a smooth road. ~ Proverbs 15:19 CEV

Discretion Is the Better Part of Valor

Feb 23

by Victoria Robinson

Shakespeare wrote, “The better part of valour is discretion; in the which better part I have saved my life.” More importantly, King Solomon wrote, “Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.”

According to the Collins English Dictionary the word discretion means: The quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid social embarrassment or distress. This describes a godly lady.

Are you a lady of discretion or are you behaving like a pig with a gold ring in your snout? Doesn’t sound very beautiful yet this is how King Solomon describes a lady who does not show discretion.

A lady of discretion …

  • Does not say everything that is on her mind.
  • Does not speak ill of others.
  • Does not spread rumors.
  • Does not boast about her accomplishments.

Dearest girlfriends, let us seek to be beautiful ladies of discretion.

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. ~ Proverbs 2:11 NIV

Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion. ~ Proverbs 11:22 NIV

Keep what you know to yourself, and you will be safe; talk too much, and you are done for. ~ Proverbs 13:3 CEV

It is foolish to belittle a neighbor; a person with good sense remains silent. ~ Proverbs 11:12 NLT

A gossip goes around revealing secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence. ~ Proverbs 11:13 NLT

As the Scriptures say, “The person who wishes to boast should boast only of what the Lord has done.” When people boast about themselves, it doesn’t count for much. But when the Lord commends someone, that’s different! ~ 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 NLT

I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. ~ Proverbs 8:12 NIV
