An Appointment Downstairs

Nov 17

by Victoria Robinson

What appointments do you have scheduled for today? There was a man named Peter who was upstairs waiting on lunch to be prepared. He soon found out he had an unexpected appointment waiting downstairs. God had called him to go with some men he did not know who had come to his door. The truth is, God has appointments for us everyday and sometimes we are oblivious to His plans. This particular appointment was an opportunity for Peter to share with a man named Cornelius and all who were gathered at his house, how to get to heaven. What a splendid opportunity! Good thing Peter was alert to God’s voice.

Do you make a conscious effort everyday to listen for the divine appointments God wants to schedule into your day? It is interesting to note in this story, God told Cornelius the name of Peter. This is amazing in that it shows God’s confidence in His servant Peter. Could the same be said of you and me? Are we so faithful that God could have confidence to tell someone our name knowing for certain that we would be obedient?

When you read this story isn’t it exciting to think of all the wonderful divine appointments God has for us today and everyday? This fills my heart with great anticipation. Does it yours? Dearest girlfriends, I pray we would set our appointments according to God’s planner and not our own.

While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.” Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. …The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went along. ~ Acts 10:19-21,23 NIV

… ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ ~ Acts 10:31-32 NIV

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. ~ Proverbs 16:9 NIV

A man’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way? ~ Proverbs 20:24 NIV
