Days of Darkness—Nights of Light

Feb 12

by Victoria Robinson

I love the dark of night, but only when I can balance it with the beauty of light. I enjoy lighting my home and have dimmer switches everywhere to obtain just the right glow. My favorite lamp is an antique stained glass light that hangs in my foyer. It is very special to me because it hung in my grandparent’s home when I was a child. After I purchased my first house, my grandmother graciously gave it to me. At night I enjoy the warm glow and memories provided by this sentimental possession.

However, there is a night coming when I will no longer need any lamps because there will never be darkness. That time will come when I enter into a glorious place called Heaven. Yet, as long as I reside here on this earth I desperately need good (and sometimes sentimental) lighting. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came to earth to bring all he light I need. He said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” Only through the mercy of His light am I able to cope with the dark days I experience here on earth. His light is wonderful and provides a glow during difficult times.

Girlfriends, if you are walking in some darkness right now, allow the heavenly lighting provided by your Lord and Savior to illuminate your way. Dearest girlfriends, I pray we would be reminded of the provision of His light that glows in our dark nights.

However many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. … ~ Ecclesiastes 11:8 NIV

There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. ~ Revelation 22:5 NIV

The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. …. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. ~ Revelation 21:23,25 NIV

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. ~ 1 John 1:5-7 NIV

Then Jesus cried out, … I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. ~ John 12:44,46 NIV

Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. … So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. ~ Hebrews 10:32-34 NIV

Forgive Me, But …

Jan 23

Do you long to have the redemptive forgiveness of your heavenly Father? If He is your Father, which can only come from accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have eternal forgiveness. Your reservation in heaven has been written down in the Lamb’s Book of Life and you have been given the greatest forgiveness that exist. Yet there is still the need to seek His forgiveness on a daily basis. Jesus showed us this truth when He prayed, “Give us our food for today, and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.”

The key to forgiveness is not to insert a “but” into our request. In the book of Jeremiah we see an example of those asking for forgiveness that came with a “but”. Their, “but” was they had no intention of discontinuing their sinful ways. A clear understanding of repentance came from the psalmist who knew his prayer for forgiveness was heard because he understood the importance of not cherishing sin in his heart.

Dearest girlfriends, I pray we would seek forgiveness with a pure heart that does not cherish sin.

So I, the Lord, refused to let the spring rains fall. But just like a prostitute, you still have no shame for what you have done. You call me your father or your long-lost friend; you beg me to stop being angry, but you won’t stop sinning. ~ Jeremiah 3:3-5 CEV

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  … Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. ~ Revelation 21:1-2,27 NIV
Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored. … Give us our food for today, and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ~ Matthew 6:9,11-13 NLT
If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me! ~ Psalm 66:18-20 NIV

My friends, the message is that Jesus can forgive your sins! The Law of Moses could not set you free from all your sins. But everyone who has faith in Jesus is set free. ~ Acts 13:38-39 CEV
