Only You—A Love Song For Him

Mar 24

by Victoria Robinson

The 1954 classic song, Only You, performed by The Platters certainly has a lot of scriptural truth in it, though maybe not what the writer intended. While this song speaks of a man who loves a woman, the words perfectly characterize the way we should love our Lord. Let us look at these words as a love song to Him, our—Only You!

Only you can make this world seem right
Only you can make the darkness bright
Only you and you alone can thrill me like you do and fill my heart with love for only you
Only you can make this change in me for it’s true, you are my destiny
When you hold my hand I understand the magic that you do
You’re my dream come true my one and only you
One and only you

— The Platters 1954

It is only the Lord who truly …
  • Can make this world seem right …
When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm. Selah ~ Psalm 75:3 NIV

  • Can make the darkness bright …
O Lord, you are my light! You make my darkness bright. ~ 2 Samuel 22:29 TLB

  • Can thrill me like He does …

You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. ~ Psalm 92:4 NLT

  • Can fill my heart with love for only Him …
And this expectation will not disappoint us. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. ~ Romans 5:5 NLT

  • Can make this change in me …
Humans give life to their children. Yet only God’s Spirit can change you into a child of God. ~ John 3:6 CEV

  • Is my destiny …
In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. ~ John 14:2-3 NIV

  • Can hold my hand …
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. ~ Psalm 139:8-10 NIV

  • Is my dream come true …
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things … ~ Psalm 103:2-5 NIV

Dearest girlfriends, won’t you make Him your One and Only today!

Are You in Someone’s Way?

Feb 25

by Victoria Robinson

Does your lifestyle put you in the way of someone else? Do your choices cause others to stumble? Our Lord and Savior told his good friend Peter that he was a stumbling block. The apostle Paul made it a point to avoid being a stumbling block to those in his life. He even went so far as to work night and day so that he would not be a financial burden to other’s.

One way we can cause others to stumble is to exercise our freedom in a way that is hurtful to those around us. For instance, there are those who do not struggle with overeating. Yet they should be careful how they eat when around a sister who lacks self-control. Serving a luscious chocolate ganache cheesecake might be an unwise choice. Instead they should consider the needs of their precious sister. Would it not be wiser to eat the cheesecake when they are in a different setting. The cheesecake is not necessarily evil, but the enemy can use it as a stumbling block to someone who has a weakness. Out of love, we should always be looking to the needs of others.

Dearest girlfriends, let us ask our heavenly Father to reveal to us if we are causing others to stumble.

Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” ~ Matthew 16:23 NIV

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. ~ Romans 14:13 NIV

Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. ~ 1 Corinthians 8:9 NIV

We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. ~ 2 Corinthians 6:3 NIV

… We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow. ~ 2 Thessalonians 3:7-9 NIV

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. ~ Philippians 2:3-4 NIV

Service With a Smile

Service With a Smile 020611by Victoria Robinson

Don’t you just love being waited on at a restaurant or store by someone who is smiling and being attentive to your every need. Hmmm … sounds a lot like the greatest servant of all time, our Lord and Savior! In the book of Matthew He describes his true heart of service as, “… the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Girlfriends, do you serve with a smile or do you sometimes find yourself complaining? It is so easy to allow the enemy to plant the seeds in our hearts of self-centered desires which is the opposite of our Lord and Savior. This in turn grows into weeds of complaining and discontent. It is necessary to take these seeds out of our hearts immediately and allow our Lord and Savior’s attitude of “service with a smile” to permeate our hearts.

The only way we can serve with a smile is to serve in the strength God provides. This then will bring glory to God as it says in the book of First Peter, “If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”

Dearest girlfriends, I pray we would serve with a smile as we rely on the strength of our heavenly Father and bring glory to Him.

Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. ~ Romans 15:17 NIV

Do everything without complaining or arguing, ~ Philippians 2:14 NIV

Be dressed ready for service … ~ Luke 12:35 NIV

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does … ~ Ephesians 6:7-8 NIV

… whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. ~ Matthew 20:26-28 NIV

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. ~ 1 Peter 4:10-11 NIV

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who… made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant … ~ Philippians 2:3-7 NIV

Getting the Upper Hand

Dec 15

by Victoria Robinson

How can you get the upper hand in life? Quite simply, obedience to the commands of the Lord your God. God gave us this principle for success in the book of Deuteronomy. Here we read Moses charge given to the Israelites, “If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God and carefully obey them, … you will always have the upper hand.”

In the book of Esther we see how the Jews got the upper hand in a dire situation. When confronted with being annihilated, they fasted and prayed. A command God had previously given in Mosaic law.

Girlfriends, getting the upper hand in life is not about power. It is instead about leading a Christ centered life that honors your heavenly Father. Henceforth, success in your life can be expected as a reward from God. We should never seek power, but always seek our Lord.

Dearest girlfriends, I pray that we would come into obedience to our Lord’s commands and enjoy the rewards He will give us.

If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God and carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always have the upper hand. ~ Deuteronomy 28:13 NLT

Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish. ~ Esther 4:15-16 NIV

On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, the edict commanded by the king was to be carried out. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them. ~ Esther 9:1 NIV

Don’t let evil get the upper hand, but conquer evil by doing good. ~ Romans 12:21 TLB

Don’t Put the “Dis” in Obedience

Nov 21

by Victoria Robinson

Do you have a reputation for obedience to your heavenly Father? Your obedience or lack thereof affects all those around you. This can be seen clearly when you observe the shenanigans of a gathering of small children. Chaos can erupt quickly if one gets into mischief. It’s like a row of dominoes falling.  Are you the child of God who is starting chaos amongst your peers through disobedience or are you promoting righteousness through obedience to your heavenly Father?

Standing firm in obedience is a testimony of what our heavenly Father desires in all our lives. Crumbling to disobedience promotes a lack of reverence for our heavenly Father. Our sin will no doubt be the downfall in other’s lives while our obedience will lift others up to our heavenly Father.

Dearest girlfriends, let us be a beacon of the light of our heavenly Father through living in obedience.

Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. ~ Romans 16:19 NIV

You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of people who are crooked and stubborn. Shine out among them like beacon lights, holding out to them the Word of Life. ~ Philippians 2:1516 TLB

And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. ~ 2 John 4:6 NIV
